![]() Evangelion wasn’t really neither the first nor is it a proper deconstruction of mecha anime. The funny thing about both productions is that they had a number of things Evafags take for granted. Mobile Suit Gundam didn’t have good ratings from the start but it did attract merchandising and licencing bids for its robot units that can be made into toys for children. Space Runaway Ideon was in some ways Mobile Suit Gundam done right initially. Sunrise also worked on a couple of 80s cartoons for American productions (which might be hard to believe for some people but Japanese animators working on American productions isn’t anything new or even sporadic*). ![]() But one of their first successes was a robot cartoon because there was money to be made from merchandising based on the robots and to some extent the protagonists who starred in that production. The studio behind the Gundam metaseries, Ideon and Raideen the Brave (Sunrise) were built on the foundations of animators formerly working for Tezuka’s Mushi Productions and the very first cartoon Sunrise made was a cartoon about talking fish (seriously). Prior to directing both Space Runaway Ideon and Mobile Suit Gundam, he also directed the enjoyable but somewhat cheesy Raideen the Brave. It sucks Greg Daniels isnt working on the show as much anymore.Space Runaway Ideon is an anime cartoon that’s directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino following the cancellation of his very well-known Mobile Suit Gundam series and when he had clinical depression. ![]() Shes been pregnet for like 3 years now and not showing. WTF is with Luanne still being pregnet? Thats just stupid. Maybe the voice actor wanted to phase out his characters.Īlso.Where was Deedy and GH(Good Hank)? Did something else happen there I missed? Any scene with all of them was usually great. Its a shame hes gone - but I guess they can always have "flashbacks". Particularly since he was in the Japanese theater(latter part of the war) and supposedly just a little older than Bobby when he went to war. But I think it could have been reasonable for him to live a few more years easily. I can see why they wanted to kill him.The show had been on over 10 years. Almost every line or episode that revolved around him was brilliant. I mean.He was a huge character on the show. I was really surprised when he finally (finally) died at the end. I thought it was good mix of humor and emotion. Missed the first 5mins.but caught the rest. While I wish some things were handled better, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Kind of sad, kind of dark, but fitting for Cotton. I thought the ending with the shack, and Dale blowing it up to fulfill the Colonel's final wish, were good. Above all else, though, I can't help but wonder if the mean-spiritedness of the show was its biggest strength or its biggest hurdle. ![]() Peggy's final words to Cotton were powerful and an interesting look on her character. And although I just mentioned that I respected the episode's lack of sentimentality, it would've been nice if Cotton let slip (in his tirade to Peggy) that he did care for Hank. I think more time should've been devoted to Hank and Cotton's relationship, since this is the last time it can be explored. The subplot was pretty fun but a bit out-of-place (and I can't imagine why it couldn't be used for a different ep-Cotton dying seems like it can hold 22 minutes easily). I respect it for that, but at times it still felt a bit too light. In that way, it was often more realistic and true than the usual "final goodbye" episodes. This one was a darker look at a death situation that honestly does happen quite often, particularly with older, bitter people. I did like this episode's nontraditional approach to the subject of death-most shows are either too heavy-handed in the emotional aspect, or too silly. ![]()
